Hypnotherapy in Derby – Frequently Asked Questions
Why are some people apprehensive of Hypnotherapy ?
Despite providing Hypnotherapy in Derby for in excess of 15 years and it being used now for decades as a recognised therapy some people still have fears or worries that somehow it’s all mind control.
To a degree I can understand this thought as quite often in the past the use of Hypnotherapy has been sensationalised on the TV etc. Please, be rest assured that I could not have been in practice for in excess of 15 years carrying out literally thousands of client sessions were it not an effective therapy.
I’ve seen Stage Performers doing Hypnosis and I’m worried that I’ll end up doing silly things…
Volunteer’s for stage performances are hand picked – normally very suggestable types and are the types of people that would perhaps be outrageous in normal life. Rest assured – you cannot be made to do anything that would be against your will.
So I cannot be controlled then ?
I cannot be made to do anything against my will then?
Can anyone by Hypnotised?
Yes, providing they want to be. Everyone is different – some people go deeply into this relaxed state, others lighter but it makes no difference to the therapy whether you go deep or light. Despite my reassurances that anyone can go into the relaxed state of Hypnosis – some people come along with the expectation that they are the one that cannot. You can….anyone can.
What does Hypnosis feel like?
Well, believe it or not, there is no such thing as a Hypnotised feeling. If you’re a driver I often use this description – When you drive on a long distance or a well travelled route – you sometimes reach that point of “how did I get here”….almost like you were on “Auto Pilot”. Similarly its very much like day dreaming…… Ever been spoken to and your response was “Gosh, I was miles away”….. it’s a very similar feeling.
So will I be asleep?
Will I remember what happens in the session?
Absolutely. As in life generally, you remember most things….. There is absolutely no reason why you will not recall everything.
I ‘m a bit worried about being Hypnotised…is it dangerous?
It is a natural human reaction to be wary or apprehensive of things or events we do not understand or have not experienced. Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state of mind, it is extremely relaxing, no drugs or substitutes are used. If you have any doubts I have a range of Hypnotherapy CD’s that I give free of charge to clients. Use of these will help to reassure you that its just a deep state of relaxation.
So how will you Hypnotise me?
When I use Hypnotherapy in Derby with clients I will simply ask you to make yourself comfortable in a chair, close your eyes and I will guide you through carefully worded instructions into a relaxed state. At the end of the session I will guide you out of this state. Its perfectly comfortable and relaxing.
So how does this differ to The Cognitive Behavioural Therapy that you do ?
The sessions that I will do with you in my surgery will be Hypnotherapy based. These sessions will help you to relax and its use will help to change the way you think about yourself and the way that you look at the world around you – and alleviate your symptoms in a very positive way. The CBT techniques that I use are exercises I will give to you to take away with you to use at home etc to help you to manage yourself in a better way and to challenge your behaviours in a conscious “cognitive” way.
What do I do if the examples you’ve given me here do not answer all my Questions ?
Simply call me or email me. Consultations and advice are always free and I would encourage you to contact me with any queries.
