HYPNOTHERAPY IN DERBY
Just What is Hypnotherapy ?
In providing Hypnotherapy in Derby I’m often asked for a description of “What it’s like ? ”….Well, ever experienced going on “auto pilot” when you drive – or simply day dreaming ?? It may be surprising to many to learn that we experience trance states often during the course of our lives. Even passing into ordinary sleep involves a kind of trance state. The experience of hypnosis is similar: neither asleep nor awake and a little like daydreaming, with a pleasant feeling of deep relaxation behind it all.
Hypnosis is a different state of consciousness, which you can naturally enter so that, for therapeutic purposes, beneficial corrections may be given directly to your unconscious mind.
In this way, hypnosis is an effective way of making contact with our inner (subconscious) self, which is both a reservoir of unrecognised potential and knowledge as well as being the unwitting source of many of our problems.
It is a fact that nobody can be hypnotised against his or her will, thus therapeutic hypnosis is a state of purposeful co-operation.
Hypnotherapy in Derby may be used to treat a variety of medical and psychological problems and most people will readily respond to Hypnotherapy. It may even succeed where other, more conventional methods of treatment have not produced the desired results. It is natural and safe, with no harmful side effects.
But surely this is just unnatural ???
I’ve heard it said many times “ I’m not having anyone mess with my mind” or “I don’t want anyone opening up a can of worms”…. well, nothing could be further from the truth. Our own thoughts and experiences are the result of years of (unrealised) conditioning by our mentors, peers, parents etc. So much has happened to us over a period of years and the ways that we feel, think and react is down largely to these life experiences. Therefore the way we think is down to this “programming”. Think about this : When our television or washing machine breaks down we either get it repaired or replaced, we have our car serviced so it runs to its optimum – but do we repair ourselves when we break down (psychologically)….do we service ourselves ??? Food for thought. In fact many companies are now investing in their employees mental health with the view that a happy employee is a reliable and good employee. Mental health issues account for 37% of all work related ill health cases and 45% of all working days lost due to ill health.
So What can Hypnotherapy Help me with ?
Clearly this list will be not exhaustive as with Phobias alone there are in excess of 1,000 different types !
- Stopping smoking
- Weight loss
- Sports psychology
- Pre-exam / driving test nerves
- Bed wetting
- Skin disorders
- Anxiety or panic attacks
- IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
- Phobias (e.g. Claustrophobia, fear of flying, Arachnophobia etc. Emetophobia)
- Nervous tension
- Addictions ie Alcohol, Gambling etc
So how can all this help me Geoffrey ?
In providing Hypnotherapy in Derby there’s literally no “one size fits all ” and my philosophy is that everyone is unique and requires their own special cares and considerations.
Throughout my 15+ years in practice as a Therapist it has become quite apparent that some ailments (e.g. Stopping Smoking) will respond well to a ‘one off ‘ session of Hypnotherapy, others such as Depression will require around 6 – 8.
I understand that attending therapy can make you feel a little apprehensive and the thought of opening up to a stranger can perhaps feel a little daunting. However, I offer a free consultation which takes around 45 minutes – you will find me a considerate practitioner and I always do my best to help you feel at ease. We will discuss your issues and how I can help you move forward and what I honestly feel is the best way forward for you as an individual and I will discuss with you exactly what my therapy involves and how it can help you move forward. Clearly it allows you to meet me, to ask any questions that you may have and to feel comfortable with me and what I have to say.
“Hi Geoffrey, I wanted to let you know that my exam on Monday the 26th of June went very well. I felt as though I was able to approach the anxiety and stress in a different way prior to, and during the exam. I’ve had a great confidence boost since the exams, and I am eager to learn more and work towards future qualifications with the reassurance that I am able to stay calm and composed. Thank you very much for all your help. Your techniques and therapies have changed the way I deal with the stresses and strains in life, and I can honestly say my life will be different going into the future. Take care and all the best for the future. Kind regards, James”
