Help With Depression in Derby – Call 07582 865 265

July 27, 2013 By Geoffrey Schofield

Help With Depression in Derby – Call 07582 865 265 Now I have been offering help with depression in Derby for many years and have carried out in excess of 8,000 client sessions. It may come as a surprise to you but it is estimated that one in four of us experiences mental / emotional issues at any one time. Of all the types of disorders that I deal with, depression is perhaps the most common. In fact the World Health Organisation estimates that by the year 2020 depression will be the number one ‘ailment’ in the world.

In being able to help with depression in Derby we are talking about a disorder that causes people to experience a low mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, irregular sleep patterns, loss of appetite, low energy, concentration and motivation etc etc.

This is not just ‘feeling low’ – which most people will experience from time to time. A person having depression will undergo intense feelings of emotion and / or anxiety, despondency, pessimism and vulnerability, and these feelings will persist. Sometimes they disappear but more often than not they reoccur. When I help with depression in Derby it often comes as a surprise to some that not only does this disorder affect the sufferer it also impacts on their whole families too !

Symptoms of Depression can include the following :

  • Tiredness / lethargy.
  • Persistent sadness.
  • Low self-confidence & self-esteem.
  • Poor concentration.
  • Lack of enjoyment in ‘normal’ things.
  • Feelings of anxiety.
  • Avoiding social situations.
  • Feelings of vulnerability and despondency.
  • Poor sleep – difficulties in getting off to sleep and / or waking in the night
  • Feelings of guilt
  • Lack of confidence at work.
  • Low appetite.
  • Low libido
  • Bodily aches / pains.
  • Preoccupation with death.
  • Self-harming

Depression – Why ?

When I help with depression in Derby I encourage the client to realise that you don’t catch depression like you may catch a cold. Sometimes it’s a ‘learned’ ailment ie your mother had it, maybe prolonged stress / anxiety, physical illness, traumas from the past, bereavements, bullying, redundancy, retirement etc etc – this list is not exhaustive. At times there is no clear reason why.

Symptoms can vary in the individual, some people can have it mildly, others, such as bi-polar (previously known as manic depression) can be hugely intrusive where the client suffers a huge range of emotions, from being very ‘high’ to very ‘low’ – hence the title bi-polar. Of course there is post / ante natal depression surrounding pregnancy and also Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) whereby the client finds themselves ‘low’ (normally) during the winter months.

As a qualified Hypnotherapist, Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and a Stress Management Consultant I (normally) tend to utilise all of these techniques to bring about ‘relief’ to my clients. This is usually over 6 – 8 weekly session, each lasting an hour and at a cost of £60.00 per session (May 2013). I always offer a free consultation which takes 45 minutes to an hour and enables me to build up an overall picture of you & to discuss the best way forward. Clearly it allows you to meet me and to ask any questions that you may have and to feel comfortable with me and what I have to say. Everything is as you would expect is in total confidence and you are always welcome to bring someone with you to the consultation. If you wish to discuss your issues with me I can be contacted either by the navigating to the contact tab at the top of this page, emailing directly through the website www.alexanderpractice.co.uk Telephone (01332) 559 126 or Email geoffrey@alexanderpractice.co.uk  I look forward to hearing from you.
